Ready to prepare for the next Destiny 2 expansion? Read on to learn more about what’s to come in Beyond Light.
What Is an Expansion Versus a Season?
An expansion is a massive content addition to the Destiny 2 game. It adds new areas, weapons, and story content. Unlike seasons, expansions are larger-scale changes to Destiny 2 that require payment to unlock all of this new content.
The standard edition of the Destiny 2 expansion will cost $40 USD. The deluxe edition will cost $70 USD, and the Collector’s edition will cost $200 USD.
What Can I Expect From the New Destiny 2 Expansion?
With every Destiny 2 expansion, there are numerous additions and changes that will fundamentally alter the game. In this expansion the story will revolve around yourself, Eris Morn and The Drifter. It will also revolve around (in a surprising twist) The Exo Stranger, facing The Darkness head-on and wielding its power. There are new public events, lost sectors, multiplayer maps, and a new raid. Us Guardians will be staying busy for a while.
How Do I Prepare for The New Destiny 2 Expansion?
Now that we know what can be expected from Beyond Light out of the way, it’s time to take a look at the best ways to get prepared for the new Destiny 2 Expansion.
There are several categories that we will be going through in order to best prepare you for the challenges ahead. These include maximizing your power level, completing new seasonal content, and understanding the new Destiny Content Vault (DCV).
Mastering these different aspects of Destiny 2 will not just help. They will guarantee that you are ready to face the challenges that await on Europa.
How Do I Maximize My Power Level?
One of the new additions with Season of Arrivals is the raised weapon and armor power cap. This cap is now at 1060 for this season, but will be raised once again when Beyond Light launches. Reaching this power cap is imperative. Doing so ensures that you are ready for whatever enemies are in Europa. Europa’s enemies will definitely be the most challenging yet.
One of the best ways to maximize your power level now is with the new Umbral Engram system. The new system is similar to other engrams. It allows you to specify the type of reward that you will receive. This allows for greater control over which pieces of armor and weapons to get your power level up faster.
These Umbral Engrams also drop at pretty high power levels, making your power level grind even quicker.
Another great way to maximize your power level is by completing all the weekly quests. Also, complete challenges from the vendors in the Tower.
There is one that you absolutely want to complete. It is the “Means to an End” weekly quest given to you near The Drifter. This quest requires you to do some of the new content from season 11. That frequently rewards you with Umbral Engrams and gives you another nice reward upon completion of the quest.
Completing all weekly challenges will reward you with gear that is above your current light level. Those will allow you to maximize your power level. Completing daily and weekly bounties from each vendor will help you quickly gain power levels with seasonal currency. Use that to upgrade and focus your Umbral Engrams.
Getting your power level to max is beneficial. Not only for the coming season, but for activities that you can do right now.
What New Seasonal Content Is There?
As with all previous Destiny 2 seasons, season 11 has added in fresh new content. Complete those before Beyond Light launches in September. Completing that content is great preparation. It is some of the most challenging content in the game, which provides great practice for the future enemies.
Also, there are some exclusive powerful items that you do not want to miss out on.
Contact Public Event
The “Contact” Public Event is a great way to earn some new Umbral Engrams quickly and reliably. However, this activity can be quite difficult if you do not have the right equipment and strategy.
The event has all three types of Champions, Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable. You want to have the mods to defeat them equipped on each weapon. The heroic versions of these events spawn high-level enemies and a Boss which are very hard to take down. Each boss has a unique puzzle. Solve those in order to damage it, which can make things very tricky.
Prophecy Dungeon
The other new seasonal activity that you need to complete before the next Destiny 2 expansion arrives is the new Prophecy Dungeon. Complete this activity because it has great rewards. Prophecy Dungeon rewards you with a brand-new set of armor for each class. The new armor can be obtained in Prophecy Dungeon. The Prophecy Dungeon is also leaving at the end of the season, so the time to complete it is now.
The Prophecy Dungeon is a challenging activity that requires you and two other fire-team members to complete difficult combat and puzzle scenarios. This dungeon is themed around the nine. It has a very unique aesthetic only found in two other locations; The Reckoning and The Eternity multiplayer map. It is a sort of “miniature” raid that houses many unique challenges and secrets, but most importantly will give a major boost to your power level.
The best thing about the new Umbral Engram System is that they can drop from completing almost any activity. You can complete content from other seasons and expansions (like the Menagerie or Ascendant Challenges) and be handsomely rewarded for your efforts.
Other activities that will help you get to the new power cap of 1060 are pinnacle activities, such as the other dungeons and Raids.
What is the DCV?
The new DCV or Destiny Content Vault is a brand-new concept for the world of Destiny 2. Essentially, the game is too large for Bungie to update, so they will be removing content that is no longer relevant or active. The areas and the content that will be removed are Io, Mars, Mercury, Titan, and The Leviathan.
What this means is that these locations are going away, along with all of the content on them. This includes missions, strikes, and raids. In other words, season 11 is your last chance to do any of the content at these locations that you may have not done yet. You’ll want to partake in these unique experiences that will be leaving us when the new Destiny 2 expansion drops.
Raids!
Content that is highly recommended to do includes the four raids that take place on The Leviathan: Leviathan, Spire of Stars, Eater of Worlds, and Crown of Sorrow. All of these activities offer challenging content with unique and powerful rewards that you can only get from these raids.
The menagerie will also be leaving along with the Leviathan, so running that a few more times will be great for boosting your power level and hearing our favorite disgraced emperor’s witty one-liners one last time.
Other important content that will be leaving includes both the Curse of Osiris and Warmind campaigns on Mercury and Mars Respectively. These campaigns are fun story-based romps that are a great way to spend a few hours, and they also offer unique rewards themed around their campaigns.
Escalation Protocol Public Event
On top of that, the Escalation Protocol Public Event will also be leaving, which is a great way to farm Umbral Engrams and grind through bounties.
Some of the most important content that will be leaving includes exotic quests that focus on a location. While Bungie has stated that these exotics will still be obtainable, we are not exactly sure how they will change in order to accommodate this loss of locations. The most important one of these is The Whisper quest on Io, but it may be best to complete as many of these as possible before these locations leave us for good.
Not everything about the new DCV is as “doom and gloom” though, as the DCV also allows Bungie to implement areas and content from Destiny 1 into Destiny 2.
The first of the old content that is being brought back is the fan-favorite area, the Cosmodrome on Earth. The Cosmodrome will return with all of its original content re-balanced for Destiny 2, along with the three strikes located there and the very first raid in Destiny history, the Vault of Glass.
Which Exotic Weapons Should I Have?
As many Guardians know, the exotic weapons you have on hand can make or break your Destiny 2 experience. This rings even more true when we face the Darkness head-on in the new Destiny 2 expansion.
Knowing which exotics to prioritize before Beyond Light drops will be crucial in getting you as powerful as possible for the next phase of Destiny 2. We will be breaking down these exotics into a few must-have weapons that will be excellent heading into Beyond Light.
One thing to remember is that every exotic has a unique trait that changes up game-play. Keep this in mind when hunting for exotics, as you want the ones that will best fit your play-style.
All exotics have their advantages and disadvantages, and some can be very useful for certain situations. The more exotics you have in your vault, the better off you will be.
Whisper of the Worm
This exotic is an updated version of The Black Spindle from Destiny 1. It’s highly desired for its incredibly high damage and its unique trait of auto-reloading when landing head-shots, making this an ideal raid boss weapon. It can be obtained by completing The Whisper quest.
Trinity Ghoul
This exotic bow recently got a massive buff with its new catalyst, making it one of the best weapons in Destiny 2. This bow’s catalyst allows its Lighting Rod perk to hit even more enemies, allowing you to clear a room of enemies with ease.
Witherhoard
This brand-new exotic grenade launcher is an absolute beast when it comes to taking down powerful enemies. It has a unique perk where it will create a damaging area of effect wherever it lands, or if you hit your target directly, you blight the target and do massive damage over time.
This weapon is unlocked immediately when purchasing the season pass for season 11, or if you reach season pass level 35.
